The Lincoln Memorial Cent, also called the Lincoln Penny
was first minted in 1959, following the Lincoln Wheat Cent
which had been minted for the first 50 years of the Lincoln
Cent series.

The Lincoln Memorial Cent was mostly Copper from 1959
to 1982 and was changed to mostly Zinc (with a Copper
coating) in 1982. 1982 was the transition year from Copper
to Zinc and there were 7 varieties of Lincoln Cents minted
in 1982.

This page of Lincoln Memorial Cents offers Proof Strike
coins. These coins are manufactured by the US Mint
mainly for collectors.

Proof Lincoln Memorial Cents are minted on high quality
planchets and are struck at least twice. These coins
typically have a mirrored background and cameo
foreground objects (devices), for example the bust of
Lincoln.
